Training: Line Searching May 2026

An effective backwoods search depends on a well-trained team. LRSAR recently trained on line searching, CalTopo navigation, and radio communications skills. Thank you to New Hampshire Fish and Game for leading the training and to Gunstock Mountain Resort for hosting us.

Pic 1: The searchers’ GPS tracks are recorded by F&G to ensure complete coverage of the search area. The lines are close together here because this was a test of the team's GPS tracking. Later in the training, we used more appropriate spacing while searching for clues. The GPS tracks make it easy to identify any gaps in coverage. Appropriate line search spacing will vary by terrain and situation.
