Report excerpted from NH F&G press release:
On Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 3:21 pm 911 received a call about an injured hiker on the Champney Falls Trail on Mt. Chocorua in Albany.
New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers responded along with members of the Lakes Region Search and Rescue (LRSAR) team.
The injured hiker was a 22-year old male from Newmarket, NH. The hiker was hiking up the Champney Falls trail when he slipped and injured his left knee. He was approximately 2.5 miles from the trailhead parking area. He was unable to bear weight and didn’t have cell signal, so he asked a hiker who was passing by to call 911 for assistance when they got cell signal.
The hiker was assisted by some other hikers that came upon him. He was assessed and treated by medically qualified team members. It was determined that he would be able to slowly walk out with assistance from the rescue party. The full rescue party arrived at the trailhead parking area at 7:32 pm.
