Rescue: South Moat Mountain

On Wednesday July 8th, members of Lakes Region Search and Rescue responded alongside NH Fish and Game Conservation Officers and Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue to assist an injured hiker on the South Moat Mountain Trail.

Our first team members arrived at the trailhead at 3:00 p.m. The patient, who had suffered a knee injury approximately 2.2 miles from the trailhead and was unable to bear weight, was assessed, packaged, and carried safely back to the trailhead by the combined rescue teams. Thanks to the outstanding teamwork between all responding agencies, the mission was completed efficiently, with all LRSAR members clear by 7:15 p.m.

Incidents like this are a great reminder that injuries can happen on any hike, even relatively close to the trailhead. Carrying the Ten Essentials, hiking with a plan, and being prepared for an unexpected delay can make a significant difference when things don’t go as planned.

A big thank you to our partners at NH Fish and Game and Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue for another successful collaborative mission.

Lakes Region Search and Rescue is currently accepting applications for new volunteer members through the end of July. Visit our website for membership requirements and additional information.
