Rescue: Peaked Mountain
7 LRSAR was activated to assite with the carryout of a hiker who suffered a non-weight-bearing ankle injury on Peaked Mountain.
One of the biggest misconceptions we see is that serious hiking injuries only happen deep in the backcountry. In reality, this incident occurred less than one mile from the Peaked Mountain Trailhead. Accidents can happen anywhere on the trail, even when you’re close to the parking lot.
This rescue was coordinated by New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers, with assistance from Lakes Region Search and Rescue, North Conway Fire Department, and Action Ambulance. Strong partnerships between state, municipal, and volunteer responders allow us to provide the best possible care and evacuation for injured hikers.
Our team was activated at 4:36 PM, and by 5:45 PM the patient had been safely returned to the trailhead, transferred to EMS, and our volunteers were clear of the scene. While this quick turnaround isn’t typical, the short distance from the trailhead and the rapid response of six LRSAR volunteers, along with our partner agencies, made for an efficient rescue.
We wish the patient a smooth and speedy recovery.
Thank you to our partners at NH Fish and Game, North Conway Fire Department, and Action Ambulance for another successful team effort.
